The gym bag checklist
Print-worthy and argument-tested: everything a training day needs, in the order you'll miss it.
Protection
- Hand wraps (dry pair!)
- Gloves — bag pair, plus sparring pair on sparring days. Sizing
- Mouthguard in its case
- Shin guards (kick sparring days)
- Groin protection — see groin guards
- Headgear if your gym requires it
Clothing
- Shorts with full hip freedom / gym tees or rash guards — see training apparel
- Change of dry clothes — training kit stays out of the office
- Flip-flops for the shower; wrestling shoes/boxing boots if your gym uses them — see footwear
Hygiene & recovery
- Towel (mats and bags thank you), shower kit
- Big water bottle; electrolytes for long sessions
- Tape and small scissors; nail clippers live in the bag for a reason
- Antiseptic wipes and a couple of plasters
The forgettables
- Skipping rope (your own is always the right length)
- Snack for after; plastic bag for wet kit
- Padlock for lockers
Sparring-day additions
Sparring days push the checklist further: a spare dry pair of wraps if the first goes damp mid-session, headgear if required, and a case for your mouthguard rather than a loose pocket. If you're nursing a minor niggle, this is also when a support earns its place — see ankle, wrist and knee supports.
Competition-day bag
Pack to the event's approved kit list, not your usual training list — competition rulesets can require or ban specific items (certain guard types, certain footwear) that don't matter on a normal training day. Confirm the mandatory and prohibited list with your coach or the organiser well before competition day, not while packing the night before.
Night-before habit: hang wet gear, restock the bag, wraps rolled. Future-you at 6am is not a details person.
